WHAT'S NEW WITH

BYRDWATCHER

This page will help you find the latest changes and additions to the site. Items are listed in reverse chronological order.

July 9, 1999: Posted months worth of Byrd news to Byrd Doings. Also added a search engine, courtesy of HotBot, to the Welcome Page. Apologies to readers for the long hiatus between updates, caused by taking a time-consuming job in July of '98 and having our second child in March of 1999. Though time is more scarce, I have some big plans for ByrdWatcher, including more interviews and member profiles -- so stay tuned.

August 23, 1998: Posted the first edition of the ByrdWatcher Interview, a six-part conversation with David Crosby Added lots of Byrd news to Byrd Doings, including news of a new Gene Clark website and the publication of a Gene Clark story in MOJO. Made appropriate updates to Byrd on a Wire: Net Resources and to the Gene Clark Bibliography.

July 2, 1998: Added lots of Byrd news to Byrd Doings, including new albums by Chris Hillman and David Crosby's trio, CPR; news of a new CPR website; and the publication of Byrd-related stories in MOJO (Gram Parsons), Folk Roots (Chris Hillman), and the newsletter of the Blue Cloud Abbey (Roger McGuinn). Made appropriate updates to Byrd on a Wire: Net Resources; to the Discographies of Chris Hillman and David Crosby; and to the Bibiliographies of Gram Parsons, Chris Hillman, and Roger McGuinn.

May 26, 1998: Posted the member profile on Gram Parsons, consisting of Gram Parsons, the Early Years: 1960 - 1965; Gram Parsons and the ISB, 1965 - 1967; Gram Parsons and the Byrds, 1968; Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris, 1970 - 1972; Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris, 1972 - 1973; and The Strange Death of Gram Parsons, 1973. Made some revisions to the Parsons-related portions of the Flying Burrito Brothers profile, namely Flying Burrito Brothers 1967-1969 and Flying Burrito Brothers 1969-1970.
Obtained permission to use artwork from Sierra Records, for which lots of thanks to John Delgatto. (Note that the Sierra website is temporarily down as this is being written but is expected to be online again soon.) You'll find Sierra artwork on some of the pages of the Gram Parsons profile, and on the following pages: Clarence White With the Kentucky Colonels, 1954 - 1965; Clarence White Plugs In, 1965 - 1968; Clarence White With the Byrds and After, 1968 - 1973; Nashville West; the Clarence White Discography; the Clarence White Bibliography; the Gram Parsons Discography; the Gram Parsons Bibliography; the Gene Parsons Discography; the Other Byrds Bibliography; and the Welcome Page.
Added lots of Byrd News to Byrd Doings. Fine-tuned the Welcome Page a bit more to make the Site Map a bit more readable and to reflect the new Gram Parsons profile. Added profiles of Love and David Rivkin (the one degree of separation between Gram Parsons and Prince!). Found some new David Crosby links and made corresponding changes to the David Crosby Bibliography and the Crosby Section of Byrd on a Wire: Net Resources.

April 15, 1998: Posted fourth batch of letters in Ask Dr. Byrds. Announced the winner of the second Trivia Quiz and posted a third Trivia Quiz.

March 10, 1998: Overhauled the Welcome Page so that every page on the site is accessible from the site directory. Revamped Byrd on a Wire: Net Resources so that resources are sorted by subject instead of resource; added huge listing of links to Tabs and Lyrics and a new section for tape traders. Updated a few other pages here and there.

February 20, 1998: Posted fourth batch of letters in Thoughts & Words: Reader Feedback, including a list of sites featuring Byrds lyrics, tabs and chords. Added lots of Byrd News to Byrd Doings. Added cool photo of McGuinn and Taj Mahal to Turn! Turn! Turn! profile. Thanks to Gary Marker for the photo. Added groovy concert poster from the 1965 UK Tour to the Fifth Dimension profile. Thanks to John Lawson for the poster. Added info on Timeless Flight Revisited by Johnny Rogan -- including ordering information -- to Byrds Bibliography. (Thanks, George!)

July 31, 1997: Added some wonderful pictures of Roger McGuinn by George Felton (thanks George!) to the McGuinn Chapter, on the Pages covering 1974-1977 and 1991-1997. Updated the reviews of Notorious Byrd Brothers, Sweetheart of the Rodeo, Dr. Byrds & Mr. Hyde, and Ballad of Easy Rider to reflect the recent reissues. Updated the last page of The Flying Burrito Brothers Chapter to reflect the upcoming release of California Jukebox (Ether/American Harvest, 1997).

June 30, 1997: Posted a second set of letters in Thoughts & Words: Reader Feedback, and answered a pointed legal question from Tomcat about the rights to the Byrds name in Ask Dr. Byrds. Created archive sections to hold older entries in Thoughts & Words and Ask Dr. Byrds, which can be accessed from the main page for each of those Chapters. (Thanks, Jim!) Remaining premature links (i.e., links to pages that aren't finished yet) are commented out of existence until their target pages are done, after early user logs reveal lots of "404 not found" errors from people clicking on them!

March 25, 1997: Rollout of initial portions of ByrdWatcher. History Section yet to be written. Members Section is written (except for Crosby Chapter) but not yet 'ported into HTML.

January to March, 1997: Earlier work in Hypercard is 'ported into HTML. Various portions are updated.

January 1994 to February 1996: Work on Hypercard prototype for CD-ROM about the Byrds.
